COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Psychological Science is a double degree requiring the completion of 480 credit points over four years of full-time study. The program combines criminology and psychology to provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of crime, human behaviour, mental processes, and social responses to justice issues. The criminology component examines the causes and consequences of crime, crime prevention strategies, criminal justice systems, law, policing, prisons, victim experiences, inequality, and social factors influencing criminal behaviour. Students explore how crime and justice are shaped by social structures, including gender, race, power, and economic factors. The Psychological Science component develops knowledge of psychological theories, research methods, and human behaviour, with study areas including cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology, clinical psychology, and health psychology. Students learn how individuals, groups, and communities think, feel, and behave, and how psychological knowledge can be applied to real-world justice and social challenges. The curriculum includes core subjects, electives, research training, and practical learning opportunities such as professional placements. Students develop skills in critical thinking, research, communication, behavioural analysis, and evidence-based problem-solving. Graduates are prepared for careers in criminal justice, community services, behavioural research, policy, and psychology-related fields, while also gaining academic foundations for further study in psychology and potential professional pathways.
