COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. The course structure combines core criminology and legal studies subjects with elective options, allowing students to develop a strong understanding of crime, justice systems, and social issues. In the first year, students complete foundational subjects that introduce criminology skills, the Australian legal system, law and disorder, criminal law, prisons and detention centres, and the social understanding of crime. Students also undertake elective subjects to broaden their knowledge and interests. In the second year, the curriculum focuses on more advanced criminology and justice topics, including victimology, victims and the law, sentencing, imprisonment and social inequality, forensic psychology, crime prevention and policy, policing and society, and community case management. Students further develop analytical skills by selecting additional criminology or legal studies electives at intermediate or advanced levels. The third year builds on previous learning through advanced criminological study, research, applied learning, and specialist elective opportunities. Throughout the degree, students develop skills in critical analysis, research, policy evaluation, legal interpretation, communication, and understanding the social factors influencing crime and justice. The program prepares graduates for careers in criminal justice, community services, government, policy development, advocacy, corrections, research, and related professional fields.
