COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) at La Trobe University requires students to complete 480 credit points, consisting of 420 credit points of core subjects and one 60-credit-point minor. The program is structured over four levels, with each level comprising 120 credit points. In the first year, students build essential foundations through subjects such as programming, engineering design, computer-aided design (CAD), mathematics, physics, mechanics of solids, and introductory electrical engineering, while also completing academic integrity and Indigenous cultural literacy modules. The second year focuses on developing engineering fundamentals in vector calculus, engineering materials, thermofluids, systems modelling, sustainability and renewable energy design, engineering enterprise, innovation, and engineering probability and statistics. During the third year, students advance into specialized civil engineering areas, including measurement and instrumentation, soil mechanics, structural analysis and design, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical design, project management, and engineering research methodology. In the final year, students complete advanced core subjects in hydraulic engineering, structural analysis and design, infrastructure design, and transportation engineering, alongside a 60-credit-point minor that allows them to broaden or deepen their expertise in a complementary field. This carefully designed curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge, practical engineering skills, research capabilities, and project-based learning to prepare graduates for professional practice in the civil engineering industry.
