COURSE CURRICULUM

The Zoology major within the Bachelor of Biological Sciences provides students with a comprehensive understanding of animals, their biology and their interactions with the natural world. Students explore animal life from individual organisms and populations to species and ecosystem levels, developing knowledge of animal physiology, behaviour, evolution, development and ecology. The major examines how animals adapt to changing environments and investigates important topics such as reproduction, Australian fauna, biodiversity and endangered species conservation. Students learn how scientific research can be used to understand animal health, ecological relationships and the impacts of environmental change on wildlife populations. Through practical learning opportunities, including field-based studies and access to wildlife facilities, students develop skills in animal observation, data collection, scientific analysis and research methods. The major encourages students to apply biological knowledge to real-world challenges, including wildlife management, habitat conservation and ecosystem protection. Graduates develop a strong foundation for careers in conservation, environmental science, wildlife management, research, ecological consulting and zoological organisations. The Zoology major also supports further postgraduate study in animal science, ecology, conservation biology, veterinary-related fields and other specialised areas of biological research.
