COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Visual Cultures requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points can be completed through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, providing flexibility to create an interdisciplinary study pathway. The Visual Cultures major offers a multidisciplinary curriculum focused on the analysis, interpretation, and production of visual meaning across historical and contemporary contexts. Students explore visual culture through approaches drawn from art history, visual studies, media studies, cultural theory, and related disciplines. The curriculum examines a wide range of visual forms, including painting, photography, film, moving images, advertising, fashion, architecture, graphic design, digital media, and online visual platforms. Students investigate how images and objects are created, represented, circulated, and understood within social, political, and cultural environments. Through theoretical study and practical analysis, students develop skills in critical interpretation, visual research, academic writing, and communication. Advanced learning encourages engagement with exhibitions, museums, galleries, archives, and contemporary creative practices while examining the role of visual culture in shaping identities and societies. Graduates develop transferable skills suitable for careers in arts organizations, galleries, museums, cultural institutions, media, education, curatorial practice, research, and other fields involving visual communication and cultural analysis.
