COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Sustainability and Development requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points can be completed through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, allowing students to design a flexible and interdisciplinary study program. The Sustainability and Development major examines global challenges related to social, economic, environmental, and political change through an interdisciplinary curriculum. The program draws on Development Studies, Anthropology, History, Politics, International Relations, Sociology, Environmental Studies, and Economics to provide students with a broad understanding of sustainability and development issues. Students explore concepts such as sustainable development, global inequalities, power relationships, resource management, environmental challenges, social justice, and the competing priorities involved in balancing economic growth with ecological protection. The curriculum combines theoretical approaches with practical skills, enabling students to analyse development strategies, evaluate policies, and understand the complex factors influencing communities and environments. Students develop research, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills while examining contemporary issues including climate change, biodiversity, poverty, inequality, and responsible resource use. Graduates are prepared for careers in sustainability, international development, government, environmental organizations, non-government organizations, policy research, community development, and other fields focused on creating equitable and sustainable futures.
