COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Politics requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points can be completed through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, providing flexibility to develop a broad and interdisciplinary education. The Politics major provides students with a structured understanding of political systems, power relations, governance, and international affairs. The curriculum introduces students to key concepts in political theory, institutions, ideologies, democracy, nationalism, and the processes through which societies organize authority and resolve conflicts. Students examine how governments and political organizations function at local, national, and global levels, while exploring issues related to wealth distribution, public policy, citizenship, and social change. Advanced study focuses on contemporary political challenges, including Australian politics and institutions, international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, and political developments in countries such as China, Russia, and Southeast Asia. Through research, critical discussion, and comparative analysis, students develop skills in evaluating arguments, interpreting political events, conducting research, and communicating complex ideas. Graduates gain valuable analytical and communication skills suited to careers in government, diplomacy, international organizations, public policy, journalism, advocacy, research, non-government organizations, and other fields involving political analysis and social decision-making.
