COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points can be completed through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, allowing students to create a flexible and interdisciplinary study plan. The Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies major explores the social, cultural, political, and ethical dimensions of identity, bodies, and difference. The curriculum examines the relationships between gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, and other forms of social identity through interdisciplinary approaches. Students engage with theories and perspectives from feminist studies, LGBTIQ studies, anti-racist scholarship, decolonial approaches, sociology, history, politics, and cultural studies. The program investigates topics such as identity formation, representation, inequality, power relations, social movements, diversity, and systems that shape experiences of inclusion and exclusion. Through critical analysis of texts, media, historical materials, social practices, and legal frameworks, students develop strong research, communication, writing, and analytical skills. The major encourages students to understand complex social issues and evaluate how institutions and cultural practices influence people's lives. Graduates develop valuable skills for careers in community services, advocacy, policy, education, research, government, media, and organizations focused on diversity, equity, and social change.
