COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Crime, Justice and Legal Studies requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points are completed through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, allowing students to design a flexible and interdisciplinary study pathway. The Crime, Justice and Legal Studies major combines perspectives from sociology, criminology, criminal justice, politics, media studies, history, and cultural studies to examine the relationship between law and society. The curriculum introduces students to key concepts in socio-legal studies, crime, justice systems, legal institutions, and the social impact of laws. Advanced study explores contemporary issues including human rights, citizenship, social justice, discrimination, violence, victim experiences, crime prevention, policing, the administration of justice, and the role of law in shaping social change and public policy. Students develop research, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills through the study of legal processes, social structures, and justice-related challenges at local and global levels. Elective subjects provide opportunities to broaden knowledge across related disciplines. Graduates gain valuable skills for careers in legal research, government policy, advocacy, community services, criminal justice, welfare organizations, social research, and other fields requiring an understanding of law, justice, and social issues.
