COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Classics and Ancient History requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points can be selected through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, allowing students to create a flexible and interdisciplinary study plan. The Classics and Ancient History major provides a structured exploration of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds through subjects covering history, mythology, literature, archaeology, art, languages, and societies. Early studies introduce students to classical civilizations, ancient sources, and methods of interpreting historical evidence. Intermediate and advanced subjects develop deeper knowledge of Greek and Roman cultures, including political systems, warfare, social structures, religion, slavery, gender roles, cultural identity, and the influence of classical traditions on later societies. Students learn to critically analyse ancient texts, archaeological materials, and modern representations of antiquity in films, television, and popular culture. The curriculum develops research, analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills through interdisciplinary approaches that connect the ancient world with contemporary issues. Elective options allow students to broaden their studies across history, archaeology, languages, culture, and related fields. Graduates are prepared for careers in education, museums, heritage organizations, research, government, media, publishing, and further postgraduate study.
