COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Archaeological and Heritage Studies requires the completion of 360 credit points over three years of full-time study. Students must complete at least one 120-credit-point Arts major, while the remaining 240 credit points are fulfilled through electives, an additional Arts or non-Arts major, or up to two minors, allowing flexibility to tailor the degree to individual interests. The Archaeological and Heritage Studies major follows a progressive curriculum that begins with foundational subjects introducing archaeology, human evolution, ancient civilizations, and archaeological methods. Intermediate-level studies expand students' knowledge of archaeological science, excavation techniques, past landscapes, Aboriginal Australia, heritage management, and the scientific analysis of archaeological evidence. Advanced-level subjects focus on Australian archaeology, cultural heritage management, artefact recording and interpretation, historical communication, sustainability, and the transformation of past societies. Throughout the program, students develop practical research, analytical, and critical thinking skills while learning archaeological theory, ethical heritage management, and interdisciplinary approaches that integrate anthropology, history, and science. The curriculum also provides opportunities to undertake electives, industry-related learning, and complementary studies that broaden professional knowledge and prepare graduates for careers in archaeology, museums, cultural heritage management, environmental consulting, government agencies, research institutions, and postgraduate study.
