COURSE CURRICULUM

The Plant and Soil Science major consists of 120 credit points within the 360-credit-point Bachelor of Agriculture degree and is designed to develop students’ expertise in sustainable crop production, plant biology, soil management and agricultural innovation. The course structure combines foundational agricultural studies with specialised knowledge of plant and soil science to prepare students for future challenges in food production and environmental sustainability. In Level one, students develop core knowledge through subjects including Agriculture and Food Security, Molecules, Genes and Cells, Making Sense of Data and Agribusiness Management, supported by chemistry foundations and introductory major studies. Level two expands students’ understanding through subjects such as Biochemistry for Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Work Integrated Learning and Entrepreneurship and Innovation, while major studies focus on plant systems, soil science, agronomy and sustainable agricultural practices. In Level three, students complete advanced major subjects that apply scientific principles to improve crop productivity, manage natural resources and address environmental challenges. Elective opportunities allow students to broaden their learning through additional majors, minors or related disciplines. Through practical experiences and industry-focused learning, graduates gain skills in plant health, land management, sustainable farming and agricultural problem-solving. The major prepares students for careers in agronomy, crop science, environmental management, agricultural consulting, research and sustainable food production industries.
