COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animal Science major consists of 120 credit points within the 360-credit-point Bachelor of Agriculture degree and is designed to develop students’ understanding of animal production, agricultural systems and sustainable farming practices. The course structure combines core agricultural knowledge with specialised studies in animal biology, nutrition, health and production. In Level one, students build foundational knowledge through subjects covering agriculture and food security, molecules, genes and cells, data analysis and agribusiness management, along with essential chemistry concepts. Students also begin their chosen major studies, developing an introduction to animal science and agricultural practices. In Level two, students expand their expertise through core subjects such as Biochemistry for Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Work Integrated Learning and Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Major subjects provide deeper knowledge of animal physiology, nutrition, disease management, production systems and sustainable agricultural technologies. In Level three, students complete advanced major subjects that focus on applying scientific principles to animal production challenges, improving productivity and reducing environmental impacts. Elective options allow students to broaden their knowledge through additional majors, minors or related disciplines. Through practical learning and industry-focused experiences, graduates develop the skills required for careers in livestock management, animal health, agricultural consulting, research, food production and sustainable farming industries. The major prepares students to contribute to innovative and responsible animal production systems worldwide.
