COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Accounting at La Trobe University requires students to complete 360 credit points, including 225 credit points of core subjects, 15 credit points of prescribed electives, and 120 credit points selected through either a major or a combination of prescribed electives and a minor. The course structure is designed to build strong foundations in accounting, finance, business, technology, and professional practice. In the first year, students study key areas such as Fundamentals of Accounting, Introduction to Finance, Data Fundamentals for Business Decisions, Business and Company Law, Management, and Generative Artificial Intelligence for Business. The second year develops advanced skills through subjects including Accounting Information Systems, Financial Accounting and Reporting, and Forensic Accounting, along with options in sustainability, industry placement, industry projects, and business electives. In the final year, students complete a capstone Integrated Accounting Project and advanced subjects in Auditing and Assurance, Advanced Accounting, and Taxation. Students can specialise through majors, minors, and elective choices covering areas such as digital business, leadership, economics, marketing, ethics, and sustainability. This flexible structure enables graduates to develop technical accounting expertise, analytical capabilities, and practical business skills required for professional careers in accounting and related fields.
