COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health–Master of Global Development at JCU is structured to provide a strong foundation in public health while allowing students to specialize through coursework, research, or professional placement options. The program includes 36 credit points of core subjects covering Tropical Public Health, Public Health Management, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Communicable Disease Control, Global Health and Development, Development in Practice, Critical Issues in Global Development, Sustainable Development in a Global World, Asia Pacific Development, Politics and Foreign Relations, and either Community Development or Economic Growth and Sustainable Development. After completing the core curriculum, students choose one of three pathways: a coursework option with elective subjects, a research option involving research methods, projects, and dissertations, or a placement option combining professional or public health placement with additional electives. Elective subjects enable students to tailor their studies across areas such as disaster resilience, conservation, environmental management, humanitarian health, reproductive health, Indigenous studies, sustainable development, economics, governance, leadership, and organizational management. This flexible structure allows students to align their education with their professional interests while developing advanced analytical, leadership, research, and practical skills. The program prepares graduates to address complex global health and development challenges through evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustainable policy development in diverse local and international settings.
