COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Science at JCU equips students with expertise in analytical thinking, scientific research methods, and the interpretation and application of psychological theory, providing a strong foundation for a wide range of careers and further study. The program combines a core psychology curriculum with a selection of electives tailored to individual interests, offering specialised subjects such as forensic psychology, memory and cognition, cognitive neuroscience, psychopathology, intercultural psychology, and social psychology. Graduates develop skills that are highly applicable in professional contexts including behavioural insights, marketing, experimental sciences, data interpretation, and other fields that require critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making. The degree can also be combined with business studies to broaden career opportunities. JCU Psychological Science graduates are innovative, critically minded, and capable of contributing effectively in diverse professional settings. For students aiming to pursue clinical psychology, the program provides pathways to Honours and Master-level study. Eligibility for the fourth-year Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) requires completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC)-approved three-year sequence in psychology with a minimum GPA, or an equivalent bridging program, completed within the past ten years. Similarly, entry into the fourth-year Graduate Diploma of Psychology requires an APAC-approved bachelor or bridging degree with foundational competencies and minimum GPA requirements, or equivalent qualifications recognized by the university. Through a combination of rigorous academic study, practical research experience, and specialised electives, the program prepares students for advanced psychological training and equips them with the knowledge, analytical skills, and professional competencies needed to excel in a variety of careers and research opportunities, both nationally and internationally.
