COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Speech Pathology degree is structured to provide students with 160 credit points of comprehensive coursework across two years, starting from Trimester 1, 2026. The curriculum is designed to integrate theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, focusing on developing the core competencies required for professional speech pathology. In the first trimester, students undertake foundational subjects such as Speech Pathology Skills and Practice 1, Foundations of Speech Pathology, and Communication and Swallowing Disorders 1, totaling 40 credit points. This foundation continues into Trimester 2 with courses like Speech Pathology Skills and Practice 2 and Communication and Swallowing Disorders 2, deepening their clinical understanding. Students also complete Foundations of Research Inquiry, which spans multiple trimesters and supports their development of research literacy. In the second year, students progress to advanced practice through Speech Pathology Skills and Practice 3 and 4, as well as Communication and Swallowing Disorders 3. These advanced courses, along with subjects like Evidence Based Practice and Clinical Research, Transition to Professional Practice, and the Speech Pathology Practice Innovation Project, prepare students for independent professional work. The program places strong emphasis on clinical experience and research integration, ensuring that students graduate with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed for entry into the profession. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible for accreditation through Speech Pathology Australia and will be ready to enter diverse health and education sectors as fully qualified speech pathologists.
