COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Primary Teaching at Griffith University is structured to accommodate both accelerated (1.5 years) and standard (2 years) study pathways, requiring the completion of 160 credit points. Students must complete 140 credit points through core courses and an additional 20 credit points from core course options. The program includes intensive academic coursework alongside professional experience placements, providing a balance of theoretical learning and real-world application. Core subjects include foundational areas of teaching such as child development, educational theory, early numeracy and literacy, health and physical education, humanities and social sciences (HASS), science, and the arts. Courses such as "Understanding Diverse Learners" and "Pedagogies for Engaged Learning: Primary" are integrated with professional experience placements, allowing students to complete a total of 35 days of in-school teaching across the program. Other key subjects include "Working Mathematically for Prep to Year 3," "Language, Literacy and Literature in the Primary Years," and "Research Informed Teaching of Reading for Diverse Learners," which focus on developing curriculum knowledge and evidence-based pedagogy. Additional emphasis is placed on digital technologies, Indigenous education, and inclusive practices through courses like "Digital and Design Technologies for Primary Teachers" and "First Australians, Education and Communities." This structure ensures graduates are well-prepared to teach across the primary years and adapt to the diverse needs of learners in modern classrooms. Through its integrated approach, combining academic depth with practical experience, the degree equips future educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the teaching profession as competent and confident practitioners.
