COURSE CURRICULUM

The Networks and Cyber Security major within Griffith University's Bachelor of Information Technology equips students with 60 credit points of specialised knowledge and skills essential for modern IT infrastructure and cybersecurity roles. The curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation in networking fundamentals and then advance to high-level topics like secure operations, ethical hacking, and digital forensics. Students begin with courses such as Computer Networking Essentials and Cloud Architecture and Administration, which provide practical understanding of network configurations and cloud system management. As they progress, they delve into more complex subjects like Secure Development Operations, where they learn secure coding and deployment practices, and Ethical Hacking, which teaches them how to identify and exploit system vulnerabilities in a controlled environment. The major also includes Advanced Network Architectures and Enterprise Routing, ensuring students are proficient in designing and managing large-scale networks. Digital Forensics rounds out the program by teaching techniques to investigate cybercrimes and recover digital evidence. Some courses are transitioning to new codes, with older versions offered for the last time in 2025. Students who are required to complete the English Language Enhancement Course must take Language and Communication for Sciences (5903LHS) in their first trimester, which substitutes one elective. Overall, this major prepares graduates to enter cybersecurity and network management roles with practical skills, up-to-date knowledge, and real-world experience in systems security and infrastructure.
