COURSE CURRICULUM

The postgraduate TESOL courses combine theoretical study with practical training to prepare you for effective classroom practice. You will build disciplinary knowledge in second language acquisition alongside specific expertise in TESOL, gaining insights into how English is learned and taught globally. Topics include second language learning and teaching, TESOL methodology, English linguistics, language assessment, English as a global language, and research in TESOL, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive approach to both theory and application.Practical experience is a key feature of the program. Students in Adelaide may opt to complete a 70-hour Teaching Practicum through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) at TAFE SA as part of ESOL9004 Curriculum Development & Teaching Practice in TESOL GE. This practicum involves observation, teaching, lesson planning, and reflective practice, giving you first-hand classroom experience.In addition to the practicum, you have opportunities to participate in overseas teaching assistant or internship programs, such as the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, English Program in Korea (EPIK), English Language Teaching Assistants in France, or the English Language and Culture Assistant Program in Spain. For those seeking even more experience, you can join the Volunteer Tutor Scheme, assist at TAFE SA, or volunteer in schools.
