COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Birth to 5) at Flinders University is a comprehensive 72-unit program designed to equip graduates with the specialised knowledge and skills required for a career in early childhood education. The program integrates theoretical foundations with practical experience, covering child development, contemporary early childhood curriculum, and effective pedagogical strategies. Students engage in professional placements within early childhood settings, applying their learning in real-world environments and gaining hands-on experience in both birth-to-three and three-to-five age groups. The curriculum addresses key areas such as health, safety, and wellbeing in early childhood settings, inclusive practices, play-based pedagogy, assessment and reporting, literacy and numeracy, leadership, and advocacy. Research methods are embedded to enhance critical thinking and evidence-based practice. This program meets the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approval requirements for early childhood teaching qualifications, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for professional practice. Through a balance of theory, applied learning, and reflective practice, students develop the confidence and expertise to create supportive, equitable, and enriching learning environments for young children.
