COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Certificate in Social Impact (GCSI) at Flinders University is a flexible, intensive postgraduate program designed to equip professionals with practical skills, deep knowledge, and applied insights to create meaningful social change. The program consists of four core topics—Social Impact in Context, Leadership for Social Impact, Innovation for Social Impact, and Demonstrating Social Impact—each delivered over five weeks in an intensive format that includes five modules plus assessments and a weekly three-hour tutorial, available in-person or online. The curriculum provides an in-depth understanding of positive social impact and social change, while teaching students how to apply these principles effectively in workplaces across the social purpose sector, including not-for-profit organisations, government agencies, philanthropic initiatives, and for-purpose businesses. The GCSI can be undertaken as a stand-alone qualification or integrated into Flinders University’s Master of Business Administration (Social Impact) or Master of Accounting (Social Impact), with topics credited toward the master’s program, allowing a seamless progression to advanced study. When combined with the MBA (Social Impact), students explore leadership, innovation, and social impact measurement alongside core business disciplines such as finance, marketing, and strategy. Alternatively, pairing the GCSI with the Master of Accounting provides comprehensive accounting expertise enriched with ethical and impact-driven practice. The program also allows for GCSI topics to be taken as electives in other Flinders courses, supporting wider professional development in social innovation and systems change. Delivered in a flexible, cost-effective manner, with the added benefit of Commonwealth Supported Places for eligible domestic students, the GCSI empowers students to develop leadership capabilities, implement sustainable and ethical strategies, and make a lasting difference across corporate, government, and social purpose sectors, while gaining practical, real-world experience and building the skills needed to drive systemic, positive social impact.
