COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences at Flinders University provides a progressive learning pathway designed to equip students with both a strong theoretical foundation and practical skills in mathematics and statistics. In the first year, students focus on core topics such as calculus, statistics, and professional skills, while also having the opportunity to choose elective subjects from across the University. Students can continue to personalise their studies through a selection of electives, allowing them to explore areas of particular interest and broaden their knowledge.The third year advances to higher-level mathematical concepts such as complex variables, partial differential equations, advanced modelling, and statistical science. A distinctive feature of this stage is the industry placement, which enables students to apply their skills to real-world problems, gain practical experience, and develop professional networks that enhance employability. Elective topics continue to offer flexibility, helping students tailor their degree to align with career goals.The honours year provides an opportunity for in-depth research and specialization, culminating in a major thesis project. Students also select from advanced computer, science, engineering, and mathematics option topics, allowing them to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge into their research.
