COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science at Flinders University is structured to develop students from foundational knowledge to advanced technical expertise, preparing them for diverse careers in the technology sector. In the first year, students build a strong grounding in computing principles and essential skills. Core topics include computing fundamentals, procedural programming, object-oriented programming, mathematics, and science communication, along with two option subjects. This first year equips students with the analytical, mathematical, and programming skills needed to succeed in more complex areas of computer science.In the second year, students deepen their understanding and expand into specialized areas. Core topics include computer organisation and systems, algorithms and data structures, data science, software engineering, and cybersecurity, along with additional option subjects. This stage emphasizes practical problem-solving, system design, and the application of theoretical concepts to real-world challenges. Students gain hands-on experience in coding, data handling, and system security, preparing them for advanced study and professional practice.The third year focuses on advanced computing, research, and project-based learning. Students study research and study skills, operating systems, computer networks, intelligent systems, and complete an advanced computing project, alongside two option topics. This final year integrates knowledge from previous years, encouraging students to design, develop, and implement innovative solutions to complex problems. The advanced project allows students to demonstrate their technical expertise, creativity, and teamwork skills in a practical setting.By the end of the program, graduates have developed strong programming, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, combined with practical experience in software development, data science, cybersecurity, and intelligent systems.
