COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Technology (Mining) curriculum provides advanced knowledge and practical training in modern mining engineering, preparing students for technical and leadership roles in the mining industry. In the first year, students study core mining subjects such as mine safety and environmental engineering, surface mining operations, mining equipment, rock fragmentation, rock mechanics, underground production systems, and mine ventilation. These subjects develop an understanding of safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations in both surface and underground environments. The program also includes a co-operative placement that gives students valuable industry experience and exposure to real engineering practices in professional workplaces. In the second year, students focus on advanced mining concepts including mine planning and scheduling, ore reserve estimation, mine surveying, and smart engineering technologies that support innovation and automation in mining operations. Students also complete advanced engineering design and research projects, allowing them to apply technical knowledge to solve real-world engineering challenges while strengthening research, analytical, and project management skills. Throughout the program, learners develop expertise in engineering design, operational planning, safety management, problem-solving, and professional communication. The degree prepares graduates for careers in mine design, production management, resource planning, consulting, and research within the mining and resources sector across Australia and international markets.
