COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Animal Science is a structured three-year program designed to provide students with strong foundations in biological sciences and their application to animal health, behaviour, and disease management. In the first year, students study core subjects such as biology, chemistry, scientific communication, systems biology, and scientific practice, which build essential scientific knowledge and laboratory skills. The second year introduces more specialized topics including pathophysiology, microbiology, and animal management and disease, helping students understand how illnesses affect animals and how they are managed in real-world settings. Students also gain practical experience through a co-operative placement, where they apply theoretical knowledge in professional environments. In the third year, the program becomes more advanced with subjects such as pharmacology and toxicology, immunology, histopathology, haematology, and case studies in animal management. A second co-operative placement further strengthens industry exposure and practical skills. Elective units throughout the course allow students to tailor their studies based on specific interests within animal science. Overall, the degree combines scientific theory, laboratory training, and hands-on industry experience to prepare graduates for careers in animal production, veterinary support fields, animal research, and related industries. It also provides a strong pathway for further study in veterinary science and advanced animal health programs.
