COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) is a co-operative degree designed to prepare students for industry-ready careers in the IT sector by combining academic learning with extensive practical experience. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in core IT areas such as digital literacy, user-centred design, connected systems, data and information systems, cybersecurity fundamentals, and programming, along with developing their professional identity in information technology. The second year focuses on applied learning and industry exposure, where students undertake co-operative placements that provide real-world experience in professional IT environments. Alongside placements, students study subjects such as IT project management techniques and AI governance and assurance, while also selecting electives to specialize in areas of interest. In the final year, students complete advanced project-based learning through two major projects that allow them to apply technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges. Elective subjects further enhance specialization in emerging IT fields. Overall, the program integrates theoretical knowledge with approximately 1600 hours of paid industry placement, ensuring graduates are job-ready. It prepares students for careers in cybersecurity, software development, artificial intelligence, data science, and IT project management by combining technical expertise, professional skills, and extensive industry experience through its strong co-operative education model.
