COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) follows a structured and progressive course plan that blends core IT knowledge with specialised training in AI and data science, alongside valuable industry experience. In Year 1, students build a strong technical foundation. Semester 1 introduces Digital Literacy, User Centred Design, Connected Systems, and Data and Information Systems, helping students understand the fundamentals of IT systems, human-computer interaction, and data organisation. In Semester 2, students continue with Professional Identity (Information Technology), which prepares them for career development and workplace readiness. Other units include Cybersecurity Fundamentals, Foundations of Programming, and Applied Mathematics 2—each essential for developing the logical and analytical skills needed in advanced computing roles.Year 2 moves into more advanced and specialised topics. Semester 1 features Agile Coding, Business Analytics and Decision Support, and IT Project Management Techniques, along with an elective, allowing students to explore areas of personal or professional interest. Semester 2 focuses on core specialisations with units such as Algorithms for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, plus another elective. These units provide students with practical experience in problem-solving, data interpretation, and algorithm development—key skills for AI and data science roles.In Year 3, the emphasis shifts to real-world experience and capstone projects. Semester 1 consists of two co-operative placement units, each worth 30 credit points, giving students 60 days of paid industry experience through the Federation Co-op model. This hands-on training allows students to apply their academic knowledge in a professional environment. Semester 2 concludes the degree with a Project unit, Data Visualization, Requirements Management and DevOps, and Machine Learning, rounding out a skill set that’s highly relevant to the current tech industry. This comprehensive structure ensures graduates are job-ready, adaptable, and equipped to lead in a data-driven future.
