COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) (Honours) curriculum is designed to develop strong technical, analytical, and practical skills required for modern mining engineering careers. In the first year, students build a foundation in engineering through subjects such as computational skills, engineering physics, engineering design, and applied mathematics while also developing professional engineering identity and problem-solving abilities. The second year introduces core mining engineering concepts including solid mechanics, mining geology, mineral processing, rock fragmentation, fluid mechanics, rock mechanics, and mine ventilation systems. These subjects help students understand mining operations, underground environments, and safe extraction techniques. In the third year, students gain real industry experience through co-operative engineering placements while studying surface mining operations, mining equipment, and underground production systems. This practical exposure helps students apply theoretical knowledge in professional mining environments. The final year focuses on advanced mining engineering topics such as mine planning and scheduling, mine safety, environmental engineering, mine surveying, and smart engineering technologies. Students also complete major engineering design and capstone projects that develop research, teamwork, and engineering problem-solving skills. Overall, the program combines engineering theory, mining operations, safety management, sustainability, and industry-based learning to prepare graduates for careers in mining engineering, mineral extraction, mine operations, and resource management industries.
