COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) is a structured three-year program designed to prepare students for teaching roles in early learning settings such as kindergartens, preschools, and long day care centres. In Year 1, students begin with foundational units including Literacy and Numeracy, Learning and Teaching, Curriculum Through Play, and Science and Environmental Education in Early Childhood. These units provide essential knowledge of child development and teaching strategies. Semester 2 deepens this foundation with a focus on early human development, diversity in families and communities, health and safety, and wellbeing in early childhood contexts.Year 2 focuses on professional identity and practical teaching. In Semester 1, students explore language development, behaviour guidance, and professionalism through units like Foundations of Language and Literacy, Guiding Behaviour, and The Early Childhood Professional. The semester also includes Professional Experience 2, giving students hands-on teaching experience. Semester 2 continues with Planning, Supporting and Assessing, Numeracy and Digital Technology, and Infants and Toddlers, along with a second practical placement focused on infant and toddler care. A summer semester elective, Nature Pedagogy, offers a unique perspective on teaching in outdoor and nature-based environments.In the final year, the focus shifts toward curriculum design, creativity, and inclusion. Semester 1 covers Curriculum Approaches, Art, Movement and Music in Early Childhood, and Social Justice and Agency in Early Childhood Education settings. Semester 2 includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Learning and Teaching, Language and Literacies, and Inclusive Education. The program concludes with a final professional experience placement, giving students the opportunity to consolidate their learning in a real-world setting. Across the course, students complete a minimum of 80 days of supervised placement, ensuring they graduate with practical experience and the confidence to begin their teaching careers.
