COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering (Applied Research) at EIT is a two-year postgraduate degree designed to develop advanced engineering knowledge, research capability, and professional expertise, comprising 48 credit points in total. The program includes 18 credit points of coursework (6 units) and a 30-credit-point research component, which forms about 60% of the overall workload. In the first year, students study core engineering subjects such as materials design and failure analysis, heat transfer, industrial hydraulics and pneumatics, engineering practice, research methods, and technology evaluation along with elective units. They also begin their research journey by developing a thesis proposal. The second year is fully dedicated to applied research, where students complete a major research project, carry out research implementation, and submit a final thesis at AQF Level 9. This thesis must demonstrate an original and significant contribution to engineering knowledge in areas relevant to industry and emerging technologies. The program is supported by continuous academic supervision to guide students throughout their research. In addition, students must complete professional practice workshops and 240 hours of work-integrated learning, which may include internships, industry projects, or site visits. This practical exposure helps students gain real-world engineering experience, understand industry practices, and apply theoretical knowledge effectively, preparing them for advanced technical, design, and research roles in mechanical engineering and related fields.
