COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering – Applied Research at EIT is a two-year postgraduate degree (48 credit points) designed to develop advanced engineering and research capabilities, with a strong focus on electrical systems and innovation. The program is divided into coursework and research components, with 18 credit points from coursework units and 30 credit points dedicated to research work. In the first year, students complete foundational and advanced engineering subjects such as power generation, power conversion, electric power system analysis, engineering practice, research methods, technology evaluation, and elective units. They also begin their research journey by preparing a research proposal. The second year is focused entirely on applied research, where students complete a major research project, implement their study, and produce a final thesis at AQF Level 9. This thesis must demonstrate an original and meaningful contribution to engineering knowledge, particularly in emerging technologies and industry innovation areas. The research component forms about 60% of the total program, supported by academic supervision throughout. Additionally, students must complete professional practice workshops and 240 hours of work-integrated learning, which may include internships, industry projects, or site visits. This practical exposure helps students gain real-world engineering experience, understand industry practices, and apply theoretical knowledge in professional environments, preparing them for senior technical and research-oriented engineering roles.
