COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering – Applied Research (Civil: Structural) at EIT is a two-year postgraduate degree designed to build advanced technical knowledge and research capability in structural and civil engineering. The program consists of 48 credit points, including 18 credit points of coursework (6 units) and a 30-credit-point research component, which makes up about 60% of the total course workload. In the first year, students study core subjects such as advanced structural analysis, engineering materials, and reinforced concrete design, along with engineering practice, research methods, technology evaluation, and elective units from the structural engineering stream. They also develop a research project proposal as part of their early research training. The second year is fully focused on applied research, where students complete two major research units leading to a final thesis at AQF Level 9. This thesis must demonstrate an original and significant contribution to knowledge in professional engineering practice, particularly in emerging technologies and innovative solutions. The program is supported by academic supervision throughout to guide research development. Additionally, students must complete professional practice workshops and 240 hours of work-integrated learning through internships, site visits, or industry projects. This practical exposure helps students gain real-world engineering experience, improve professional skills, and apply theoretical knowledge effectively, preparing them for advanced roles in civil and structural engineering.
