COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Sustainability (Professional) consists of 16 credit points, including the compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin and Career Tools for Employability modules, 3 credit points of core units, a 4-credit-point specialisation, and a 9-credit-point pathway. The core curriculum establishes a strong foundation through units such as Sustainability in the Anthropocene, Environmental Science and Global Change, and Professional Research Practice, enabling students to understand the scientific, social, and policy dimensions of sustainability. Students then complete a specialisation to gain advanced knowledge in an area aligned with their career goals. The flexible course structure allows students to choose one of three pathways: a Research pathway for those interested in advanced research and higher studies, an Industry Practice pathway that provides valuable professional experience through workplace learning, or an Advanced Discipline Coursework pathway that broadens expertise through additional specialised study. Eligibility requirements apply for the research and industry practice options. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, research, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills while exploring contemporary sustainability challenges and evidence-based solutions. The curriculum integrates academic learning with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, sustainability consulting, policy development, corporate sustainability, government agencies, research organisations, and international institutions dedicated to promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
