COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health consists of 16 credit points, including the compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin module completed in the first study period, 8 credit points of core units, and 8 credit points of elective units. The core curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in public health by covering key areas such as Principles and Practice of Public Health, Contemporary Health Issues and Policies, Health Promotion, Research Literacy, Health Equity and Human Rights, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Health Protection. These units equip students with the knowledge and analytical skills required to understand population health, evaluate health data, develop evidence-based interventions, and address complex public health challenges. Students can customise their studies by selecting elective units from a variety of public health fields, allowing them to develop specialised expertise aligned with their career interests. Elective options span areas such as epidemiology, health promotion, health economics, public health nutrition, humanitarian assistance, disability and inclusion, applied research, and public health practice. The flexible course structure combines theoretical learning with practical and research-based approaches, enabling students to strengthen their leadership, communication, critical thinking, and policy development skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in government agencies, healthcare organisations, research institutions, non-government organisations, and international public health settings, where they can contribute to improving health outcomes and promoting healthier communities.
