COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Psychology (Clinical) consists of 16 credit points of core units, including the compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit completed in the first study period. The course structure is designed to provide advanced theoretical knowledge, research capabilities, and extensive practical training required for professional psychology practice. In the first year, students study areas such as Studies in Psychopathology, Issues in Professional Psychology, Psychological Intervention, and Psychological Assessment, building foundational clinical skills. The second trimester introduces Clinical Placement and Case Analysis, Advanced Clinical Research Methods, further psychological intervention training, and the beginning of the research thesis. In the second year, students undertake advanced clinical placement experiences, develop expertise in psychological interventions and assessments, and complete their research thesis through multiple stages. Additional study areas include Clinical Health Psychology, which enhances understanding of psychological factors affecting physical health and wellbeing. Throughout the course, students gain practical experience through supervised clinical placements, apply evidence-based approaches, and develop skills in assessment, diagnosis, intervention, research, and professional practice. This comprehensive structure prepares graduates for advanced roles in clinical psychology and supports their pathway toward professional registration and future specialisation opportunities.
