COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nutrition and Population Health consists of 16 credit points, including a compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit completed in the first study period, 15 credit points of core units and 1 credit point of course elective units. The course structure provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in nutrition, food science and population health. Core units cover key areas such as Principles of Nutrition, Food, Nutrition and Behaviour, Biochemistry and Physiology for Human Nutrition, Lifespan Nutrition, Human Nutrition Research Studies, Food Science, Nutrition Research Practice, International Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle Diseases, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Promotion, Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems, Systems Thinking in Public Health Nutrition and Obesity Prevention. Through these units, students develop an understanding of nutritional requirements, health promotion strategies, research methods, food policies and interventions to improve population wellbeing. Elective options allow students to tailor their studies in areas such as childhood and adolescent nutrition, sports nutrition, healthy ageing, international food perspectives or practical industry experience through the Postgraduate Nutrition Practicum. This flexible course structure prepares graduates with scientific knowledge, research capabilities and applied skills for careers in nutrition, public health, community health programs, policy development, research and health-related organisations.
