COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology (Professional) consists of 16 credit points, including a compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit completed in the first study period. The course is structured across four key areas: Fundamental Information Technology Studies, Mastery Information Technology Studies, Specialist Information Technology Studies, and Professional Studies. Students complete 8 credit points of fundamental and mastery IT units, 4 credit points of specialist IT studies, and 4 credit points of professional units and electives. The program develops advanced technical expertise while allowing students to specialise in their preferred IT discipline. Core units include Analytics for Security and Privacy, Applied Software Engineering, Information Technology Innovations and Entrepreneurship, and Professional Practice in Information Technology. Through these units, students develop skills in software engineering, data analytics, technology innovation, security practices and professional IT management. The specialist component enables deeper knowledge in a selected area, while professional studies focus on applying IT skills through industry-relevant projects and practical learning experiences. The course prepares graduates with technical capability, problem-solving skills, leadership qualities and professional confidence required for careers in software development, cybersecurity, IT consulting, technology management and other advanced IT roles across diverse industries.
