COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology consists of 16 credit points, including a compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit completed in the first study period. The course structure is divided into four key areas: Foundation Information Technology Studies, Fundamental Information Technology Studies, Mastery Information Technology Studies, and Specialisation or Course Elective Studies. Students complete 12 credit points of core units that build a strong foundation in essential IT concepts, technical skills and advanced professional practices, along with 4 credit points of specialisation or elective units to tailor their studies according to career interests. Core units include Object-Oriented Development, Database Fundamentals, Software Requirements Analysis and Modelling, and Web Technologies and Development, providing students with essential skills in programming, database management, software analysis and web development. The course progressively develops advanced knowledge in information technology, enabling students to understand software systems, technology solutions and modern IT practices. The specialisation or elective component allows students to deepen expertise in selected IT areas or explore additional disciplines through approved SIT or MIS-coded units. This flexible structure prepares graduates with practical, technical and analytical skills required for professional roles in software development, IT systems, technology consulting and other technology-focused industries.
