COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Health Promotion consists of 16 credit points, including a compulsory zero-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit completed in the first study period, 8 credit points of core units, and 8 credit points of course elective units. The course structure is designed to build advanced knowledge and practical skills in developing, implementing and evaluating health promotion initiatives that improve community wellbeing. Core units cover essential areas such as Health Promotion, Health Communication, Needs Assessment and Health Program Planning, Research Literacy, Health Program Evaluation, Contemporary Health Issues and Policies, Qualitative Health Research, and Health Equity and Human Rights. Through these units, students develop the ability to identify health challenges, design evidence-based interventions, communicate effectively with diverse populations, conduct research, and evaluate health programs for better outcomes. The combination of core studies and electives allows students to tailor their learning according to their professional interests, with opportunities to explore specialised topics related to public health, community development, policy, research and health equity. The course prepares graduates with analytical, planning, communication and advocacy skills required for careers in health promotion, government agencies, community organisations, research institutions and healthcare settings. It provides a strong foundation for creating healthier and more equitable societies.
