COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Health Economics offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry pathway, previous qualifications, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period. Students complete 8 credit points of core units that provide essential knowledge and skills in health economics, economic evaluation, epidemiology, biostatistics, health technology assessment, resource allocation, priority setting, and healthcare management. Core units include Health Economics 1, Economic Evaluation 1, Epidemiology 1, Biostatistics 1, Health Technology Assessment 1, Resource Allocation and Priority Setting, Economic Evaluation – Theory and Practice, and Economics for Managers. In addition to the core studies, students complete a further 8 credit points through either a Minor Project combined with 6 credit points of course electives or a Major Project combined with 4 credit points of course electives. These project components allow students to apply economic analysis, research, and evaluation skills to real-world healthcare challenges. The course structure integrates theoretical foundations, applied research, and practical decision-making skills, preparing graduates for careers in health policy, healthcare management, economic evaluation, research, and health system improvement.
