COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Film and Television offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry pathway, previous qualifications, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period. The course includes 14 credit points of core units and 2 credit points of elective units selected from the Master of Communication, Master of Arts (Writing and Literature), or Master of Creative Arts, allowing students to broaden their creative skills. Core studies develop advanced screen production capabilities through units such as Writing with the Camera, Studio 1: The Writer’s Room, Documentary Production Practice, Post Production, and Studio 2: Production in the first year. Students gain practical experience in storytelling, screenwriting, production processes, editing, and creative collaboration. In the second year, students expand their industry knowledge through Screen Business, Studio 3: Essay and Screenplay, Motion Graphics and Titles, Studio 4: Production, and the Communication and Creative Arts Internship. These units strengthen professional skills in project development, production management, visual storytelling, and industry engagement. This structure combines creative practice, technical expertise, and professional experience to prepare graduates for careers in film, television, and digital media industries.
