The Master of Data Science (Professional) offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry pathway, previous qualifications, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period to establish essential academic and professional standards. The course is organised into four key components that progressively develop advanced data science capabilities. Part A focuses on Fundamental Data Science studies, consisting of four core units that introduce essential concepts and techniques in data analysis, real-world analytics, data management, and computational methods. Part B develops Mastery Data Science skills through advanced core units covering areas such as data wrangling, mathematics for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced data science applications. Part C provides flexibility through four credit points of either a specialised study area or level 7 SIT or MIS-coded course elective units, allowing students to tailor their learning to career goals. Part D consists of four credit points of professional studies, excluding foundational IT units, providing opportunities for applied learning through industry projects, professional practice, or research activities.
