COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Cyber Security (Professional) offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry qualifications, previous study, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period to establish essential academic and professional standards. The course is structured into four key components that progressively develop advanced cyber security expertise. Part A focuses on Fundamental Cyber Security studies, consisting of four core units that build essential knowledge in areas such as identity, access management, physical security, analytics for security and privacy, cyber security management, and computer networks and security. Part B develops mastery-level cyber security skills through advanced core units, enabling students to address complex security challenges and apply sophisticated defence strategies. Part C includes four credit points of level 7 SIT or MIS-coded course elective units, allowing students to specialise in areas aligned with their career interests while excluding foundational IT units. Part D consists of four credit points of professional studies, providing opportunities for practical application through industry-focused projects, placements, or research activities. This structure integrates technical expertise, strategic understanding, specialised learning, and professional experience to prepare graduates for advanced cyber security careers.
