COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Cyber Security provides a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry qualifications, previous study, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period to establish essential academic and professional standards. The course is organised into four progressive parts that develop comprehensive cyber security expertise. Part A focuses on Foundation Information Technology studies, consisting of four core units that build essential skills in areas such as object-oriented development, database fundamentals, software requirements analysis and modelling, and web technologies and development. Part B covers Fundamental Cyber Security studies through four core units that introduce key concepts, principles, and practices in cyber security. Part C develops advanced cyber security capabilities through mastery-level units, while Part D focuses on cyber security capstone studies, enabling students to apply their knowledge to complex real-world security challenges. Students also complete one level 7 SIT or MIS-coded course elective, allowing further specialisation. Depending on prior qualifications and experience, students may receive credit towards foundation and fundamental study areas. This structure combines programming, information technology, security concepts, advanced practice, and applied learning to prepare graduates for professional cyber security roles.
