COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Creative Arts offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry pathway, previous qualifications, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first trimester to establish essential academic and professional practices. The course consists of six credit points of core units, six credit points of course elective units, and four credit points of research capstone units. The core component focuses on developing advanced creative practice skills through units such as Creative Studio A, Creative Studio B, and Methods and Design for Creative Arts Research. These units provide students with opportunities to experiment, collaborate, develop creative concepts, and apply research approaches to their chosen creative discipline. The six credit points of elective units allow students to explore complementary creative areas, broaden their skills, and tailor their studies to personal interests and career goals. The four-credit-point research capstone enables students to undertake an in-depth creative research project, integrating practical production with critical inquiry and professional presentation. This structure combines creative exploration, interdisciplinary learning, research capability, and industry-focused practice, preparing graduates for innovative careers across the contemporary creative arts sector.
