COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Business (Sport Management) offers a flexible study structure requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry qualifications, previous study, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period to develop essential academic and professional standards. The course consists of 10 credit points of core units that provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required for successful careers in the sports industry. Core studies include introduction to the sport industry, the sport workplace, sport and the law, sport marketing, sport ethics and integrity, accounts and governance, sport business innovation and technology, fan and participant engagement, sport governance, and strategic management through a capstone project. These units develop students’ understanding of sport operations, leadership, commercial strategy, legal frameworks, technology, stakeholder engagement, and organisational management. In addition, students complete six credit points of open elective units, allowing them to broaden their knowledge and tailor their studies according to their professional interests and career goals. Combining business principles, sport-specific expertise, and applied learning, the course prepares graduates for leadership roles across professional sports organisations, event management, marketing, governance, and the wider global sport business sector.
