COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Biotechnology (Professional) offers flexible study options requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points, depending on their entry qualifications and any Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) awarded for previous academic study or professional experience. The full 16-credit-point program begins with three compulsory zero-credit units: DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, STP710 Career Tools for Employability, and SLE010 Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, which prepare students with essential academic, professional, and safety skills. The course structure includes seven credit points of core units covering key areas such as agricultural biotechnology, molecular biotechnology, biostatistics, professional research practice, nanobiotechnology, industrial biotechnology, and applied bioinformatics. These units provide students with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical capabilities across diverse biotechnology fields. The remaining nine credit points are completed through a specialised pathway, allowing students to tailor their studies according to career goals. Students can choose a Research pathway to develop advanced scientific research skills, an Industry Practice pathway to gain professional workplace experience, or an Advanced Discipline coursework pathway to deepen their biotechnology expertise through advanced study. This structure combines scientific knowledge, practical laboratory skills, professional development, and industry-focused learning, preparing graduates for successful careers in biotechnology research, healthcare, agriculture, environmental science, and related industries.
