COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Architecture offers flexible study pathways, requiring students to complete 8, 12, or 16 credit points depending on their entry qualifications and any Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) awarded for previous academic study or professional experience. Students enrolled in the full 16-credit-point program begin with two compulsory zero-credit units: DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which introduces academic and ethical standards, and SRA710 Safety Induction Program, which prepares students for safe participation in studio and workshop environments. The program includes 12 credit points of core units covering professional practice, Indigenous narratives and design processes, environmentally sustainable design and technology, critical futures, and advanced architectural design. Central to the curriculum are the two-part Common Ground Studio and the two-part Architectural Design Thesis, including a capstone project that enables students to apply research, creative thinking, and technical expertise to complex architectural challenges while developing a professional portfolio. Students also complete four credit points through either a specialisation or SR-coded elective units, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. This comprehensive structure combines theoretical knowledge, design innovation, sustainability, professional practice, and hands-on studio experience, preparing graduates for architectural practice, research, and progression toward professional registration as architects in Australia.
