COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Sport Development requires students to complete 24 credit points, including the compulsory Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin module, Exercise and Sport Laboratory Safety module, 16 credit points of core units and 8 credit points of open elective units. The course structure combines foundational business, health and sport knowledge with specialist sport development studies. Foundation units introduce students to sport organisation, sport in society, organisational behaviour, marketing, accounting, physical activity, health promotion and evaluation. These units build essential skills in management, communication, business decision-making and understanding the role of sport in communities. Specialist units focus on practical sport development skills, including inclusive coaching, sport coaching issues, athlete and participation pathways, community sport leadership, facility and event management, sport industry experience and sport policy development. Students also study sport marketing and complete a capstone unit that integrates their knowledge to address real-world challenges in the sport sector. The course provides opportunities to apply skills through practical learning and industry-focused experiences, preparing graduates for careers in sport organisations, community programs, sporting bodies, government initiatives and health-focused sport development roles. This structure develops capable professionals who can lead, manage and create positive social impact through sport.
